Every two months we select a book to read and discuss that relates to our travels in the United Kingdom. All our meetings are held over Zoom.

Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear

Set in London and Kent, England, in the 1920s, our October book focuses on the life and adventures of Maisie Dobbs. Trained as a nurse, Maisie has recently left her nursing life to set up shop as a private investigator. This book takes you with Maisie as she investigates a complex and challenging case.

In the aftermath of the Great War, a former officer has created a working farm known, as The Retreat, that acts as a convalescent refuge for ex-soldiers too shattered to resume normal life. When Fate brings Maisie a second case involving The Retreat, she must finally confront a ghost that has haunted her for over a decade.

The Choir by Joanna Trollope

Tells the story of a cathedral in the fictitious town of Aldminster, England, where crisis looms. The Dean wants to restore the beutiful Cathedral whose structure is beginning to crumble. He is at odds with the Headmaster of the school who wants the much needed money for repairs to be spent on the Choir School. Other characters come into play and take sides including the mother of one of the choir singers who becomes attracted to the organist and choir conductor.

The Last Garden in England  

by Julia Kelly.

Taking place during three time periods, 1907, 1944, and current day, this novel tells the story of five women whose lives  are connected by an English estate garden in Warwickshire. We will be traveling through this part of the country on our 2026 tours, and we will be visiting the Garden Museum in London. This book is the perfect compliment to our adventures.  

This club meeting will be May 30 at 2PM PST.
